This is a transfer story I don’t really see happening to be honest.

Not because I don’t think Celtic don’t need another striker because I do.

I have mentioned many times on this site that it may be time to try and get a striker that will help us compete at Champions League level as Kyogo and, to a certain extent, Giakoumakis just couldn’t quite cut it at the top table of European football.

But here is the question I have for you.

Is a striker currently playing at Championship level in England going to be any better than we have at the moment?

I can’t imagine he would be. But according to Football League World via the Sunderland Echo, Ross Stewart is a target for Celtic as the Sunderland striker has yet to agree on a contract extension at The Black Cats.

Stewart is a Scottish internationalist and in 214 first-team appearances in his career, has scored just 79 goals. That’s a goal every 2.7 games [Transfermarkt]. He also has two caps for Scotland.

Kyogo scores a goal every 79 minutes for us [Footy Stats] whilst Giakoumakis gives us one every 96 minutes [Footy Stats].

It was Stewart’s scoring record in League One that helped gain Sunderland promotion to the Championship with 24 goals in 46 games and this season, so far, he has scored 5 goals in 7 outings in England’s second tier.

I’m just not that convinced that the frontman is any better than what we already have at the club.

Call yourself a true Celtic fan? How well do you know the European Cup winning season?
