Pundit won’t be only one “glad to see back of him” as Celtic star faces Parkhead exit

|

Tom Rogic could be set to leave Celtic with talks ongoing about a potential move to Qatar as the 27-year old sees his game time in green and white reducing by the season.

One pundit who would be glad to see the back of him is former Rangers defender, Alan Hutton, who, speaking to Football Insider, feels that it could be time for him to move on.

So what has Hutton said?

When asked to reflect on the speculation linking the Australian international with a £3.6million move to the Middle East, he said:

“On his day I think he can be special. He’s always played well against Rangers so obviously I’m glad to see the back of him for that.

“It’s definitely a step down, the club’s that are being talked about. Then again, is he getting a big wage packet? We don’t know. Could that be what’s tempting him over there? Probably.

“I think he’s a very good player and all the Celtic fans will as well but he’s maybe had his time now, time to move on and maybe bring in some fresh faces.”

So is Hutton correct?

Rogic has been a very good servant for Celtic, when he has been fit, but those days seem to be getting fewer and fewer, he played just 600 minutes of league action last season showing just how far down the pecking order he is.

Despite only being 27, he just doesn’t have the pace or mobility that the likes of Ryan Christie, Olivier Ntcham or the soon to arrive David Turnbull have, he also hasn’t been a dominant force in a Glasgow derby for a couple of seasons now, there is a reason he is being allowed to leave.

Has Rogic's time at Celtic come to an end?

Yes

No

There has never been any doubt about his technical ability but with Neil Lennon employing a more direct style of play, he just doesn’t have a future at Parkhead, however, what he does have is a cabinet full of medals and special memories from his time in Glasgow – with Hutton unlikely to be the only fan from across the city glad to see the back of him.
