This is one of those stories that simply will not go away. Until the transfer window closes or Celtic seal the deal or unless it is killed stone dead by either club, the Ben Davies to Celtic circus doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

After the Hoops were “gazumped” by Liverpool in the January transfer window, this was one of those transfer tale’s that still sting the Parkhead club.

Celtic thought they had secured the signature of the big Englishman back in the winter window but, according to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph, at the time they failed to finish off one minor detail, the signature, “ It looked to me that the player had agreed the contract. He’d agreed the pre contract, but he hadn’t signed it that night.

“So this is why we (Sky Sports) reported that he’d signed it because obviously we were told it was signed.  Obviously he’s slept on it, and not that he wasn’t going to sign it. I think he’s just genuinely not signed it and submitted it.”

Then Liverpool nicked in and the rest, as they say, is history.

After making not a single appearance for the Anfield club, respected Scottish journalist Stephen McGowan, reports that Celtic are still very much in the hunt for Davies.

It is thought that Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp, is delaying letting Davies go until he is certain on the future of world class stopper and ex Celtic defender Virgil Van Djik, as he still recovers from serious injury that kept him out of most of last season.

It certainly seems a transfer that Postecoglou wants to get over the line, according to McGowan, so let’s hope that it can be done in time for the Champions League qualifier in less than 10 days time.
