Celtic’s pursuit of central defensive cover and back up in the full back position look set to step up a notch before the window closes this month.

Without doubt the capture of Liam Scales may give Ange Postecoglou different options, but with an injury to regular Greg Taylor, it seems even more cover may be required on the left side of the back four.

Many fans still expect another centre back to join the club as Christopher Julien seems a few months away from full fitness yet.

Journalist, Stephen McGowan was speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, when he gave his thoughts in where he believes the club may be looking to strengthen and with a big move for Ko Itakura breaking down earlier this summer, McGowan gave an insight as to why that transfer didn’t go ahead, “I think a right centre back and a left sided centre back, if you remember Starfelt came in he started on the left side of the two with Stephen Welsh on the right. He looked uncomfortable on the left and then he switched with Welsh and still looks uncomfortable.

“So I’d be surprised if he didn’t try and bring in, certainly on loan, a center back on the left side.

“The thinking was Ben Davis but he ended up at Sheffield United.

“There was one or two from Manchester City and Itakura was about but Manchester City were looking for a big loan fee for him.

“So Celtic have been looking at one or two but there is a conspicuous absence of speculation right now.”
