After Celtic lost Ben Doak to Liverpool and various other youngsters to clubs all over Europe, it was refreshing to see that some of our top talents have now started to buy into the Ange Postecoglou revolution recently.

It does seem as if youngsters like Karamoko Dembele will be extending their contracts especially after the news last month that Daniel Kelly and Mitchell Frame have signed professional contracts at Paradise.

Which makes these comments by finance expert Kieran Maguire that little bit more confusing.

Speaking to Football Insider, Maguire said, “It’s really frustrating [losing Doak].

“It’s business, but this is also on the back of Brexit.

“Because English clubs can no longer recruit 16 and 17-year-olds from the EU, there will be more snaffling of players from English and Scottish clubs.

“It’s a disadvantage of Brexit from Celtic’s point of view. Their young players who are yet to sign professional contracts and that means they are targets.

“Because the Premier League can’t recruit from Europe, they target players from England and Scotland.”

But recent activity at the club shows that Celtic have bucked that trend and it doesn’t always come down to money.

This type of speculation helps no one.

Young football players are not always motivated by money. Matt O’Riley is a perfect example of that.

Ange has the measure of the club. He has the buy in from all those around him, including the youth team as he has set out a pathway for them to break into the first team that clearly wasn’t there before.

If anything, I would expect to see more players sign on AT Celtic than away from the club.

  • Jim Coyle says:

Brexit not a thing to do with Brexit.
I put in to the youths through the Celtic pools
For years, all I was doing was paying for the boys
To learn their trade at Celtic, only for them to go down
South for the big money. Celtic is to blame, they
Thought the boys would sign up just because they
Are Celtic. They have been loosing young players for
    Years, long before Brexit.
