The Bhoys need a boost today, but is dropping Edouard the answer?

What a  two weeks of turmoil for the Hoops.  Defeat in the Glasgow Derby, followed by two defeats in Europe. The only light in such a dark couple of weeks was a good performance in the Scottish Cup semi final against Aberdeen.  The team needs a spark. It needs to explode into action today against Motherwell and the fans will be expecting a reaction from the European embarrassment midweek.  So why drop Edouard?

I know the big striker has been off form. He looks devoid of confidence at the moment but if Celtic need a piece of magic or that deft touch to unlock defences, the Frenchman does have that in his locker ready to go. Who else can provide it?

Rogic showed some flashes of it on Thursday night in the first half before Prague took the lead.  Christie, for all his running and energy looked devoid of ideas and if Celtic are hoping to rely on Frimpong or Laxalt, then that burden should not be on a nineteen year old boy still learning his trade in Frimpong, and certainly should not fall on the shoulders of a loanee who, although is looking very impressive, has only played just a handful of games for the club.

Edouard should play. But he should be partnered up front by either Ajeti or Griffiths. Edouard is a master at giving the team an outlet and holding up possession to involve those around him.  His sheer presence on the park forces opposing teams to double up on him and that creates space for his striking partner.

As it stands, the manager has decided to line up with Ajeti as the lone striker for the match at Motherwell today. It is a big call. Massive.  Let’s hope it pays off as the team badly need a result. And a performance.
