“There’s a mistake him” , “He’s still capable of the odd lapse” – Daily Record journalists bizarre Celtic player attack

Why? Why have the Daily Record came out with this piece of nonsense about Celtic defender Carl Starfelt at this moment in time?

Just as CCV signed on permanently, it seems the amount of good news coming out of Celtic Park needs to be balanced out with this unadulterated p**h from this Scottish media outlet.

At this point, there is no need to criticise Celtic defender Carl Starfelt.

The big Swede has just won the league and cup double as part of a brilliant partnership with Carter-Vickers. He has earned a reprieve from the snipers in the Scottish media.

But no, not today.

After a weekend of positive Celtic news, the Daily Record decided to run with this question in The Monday Jury,

Do Celtic need to find a partner for Cameron Carter-Vickers?

The answer is, of course, no because the Starfelt/CCV combination works. But out of the four journalists who were asked the question, only one had a balanced answer.

I’ll let you figure out who that is:

KEITH JACKSON : Carl Starfelt came onto a game in the second half of last season and deserves to stay in the team. But there’s a mistake in the big Swede all the same and he could benefit from being challenged for his position.

CRAIG SWAN : Ange Postecoglou needs another centre-half. Nir Bitton has gone and Christopher Jullien didn’t get a shot at it. Once he’s signed, it’ll be up to the individual to oust the Swede.

GORDON PARKS : The need for a bit of height in the Celtic defence was an issue all last season and it’s something which must be on their recruitment list.

ANDY NEWPORT : Starfelt has certainly improved since his early Parkhead days but there’s no doubt he’s still capable of the odd lapse in concentration. Finding someone with the full package won’t come cheap and that may mean they have to stick with the Swede having splashed out £6m on CCV, with a similar amount needed to nail down Jota too..
