Celtic have dismissed claims in Australian media that prospect Daniel Arzani is set to return to parent club Manchester City.

Australian outlet The World Game claimed yesterday that Arzani’s lack of game time could see a clause activated that would ensure his loan move to Scotland is terminated in December.

The report suggests that Brendan Rodgers may be using his lack of match fitness as a ‘smoke screen’ and simply isn’t willing to give him the game time to impress.

However, the Hoops have hit back today, with sources telling The Daily Record that there is no truth in it and that he won’t be returning to City in such a manner.

Clearly there are two contradicting stories here.

The whole thing does call back the Charly Musonda situation earlier in the year, although he at least managed to get some first-team football before heading back to Chelsea early.

A similar outcome on the Arzani deal would be a sad indictment of Celtic’s transfer policy, with a scatter gun approach to loan signings not doing any party any good at all.

Hopefully the manager clarifies the player’s situation in this week’s press conference.

The player himself seems to just be getting on with things, shining for his country in action against Kuwait this week. Will that be enough to prove to Rodgers he deserves some minutes in a Celtic shirt?
