I always felt these two players left the club way too early. When their potential was so high and their ability was at their peak at Celtic, I just wish they had stayed on that wee bit longer.

Mohammed Elyounoussi and Moussa Dembele were both outstanding players for Celtic during their time.

Although they didn’t play together, both won a treble during their respective times at the club.

Demebele was an instant hit at Celtic. A Brendan Rodgers signing, the Frenchman was prolific at the club and scored 51 goals in 98 appearances, winning two trebles, before moving onto Lyon in a deal worth almost £20m [BBC].

He has been in very good goal scoring form for the French club with 69 goals in 150 appearances but with his contract expiring next June, Dembele will be free to talk to clubs in January with the Hoops in danger of losing out on a sell on fee.

Elyounoussi enjoyed two seasons on loan at Celtic and won a Treble in season 2019/20 helping the club seal the famous Qudruple Treble.

The Norwegian international appeared 67 times for the Hoops scoring 24 goals before returning to Southampton where he has become a regular in their first team.

Elyounoussi was a popular player at Celtic as the fans enjoyed his direct attacking style. His contract also expires in June 2023 and The Saints risk losing him for free unless they offer him a new deal before December.

So hard to imagine that two players who have raked in millions in transfer fees between them and who were loved by the fans during their time at Celtic could, incredibly, potentially leave their clubs for free next summer.

It’s the dreaded international break. So take away the boredom and try our *BRAND NEW* quiz. Who are Celtic’s most capped players from these countries?
