Beram Kayal is dismissing any talk of Celtic being the favourites for the SPL title this season. The Hoops eased eight points clear of their closest challengers Rangers by comfortably defeating the Ibrox side 3-0 at Parkhead on Sunday.
“We’re not favourites. We must win every game because Celtic is a big club. I like it like that” – Beram Kayal
And while their local rivals do still have a couple of games in hand on them, the convincing manner of that defeat could perhaps have even more far-reaching effects – although the Israeli international was certainly taking nothing for granted.
“We’re not favourites. We must win every game because Celtic is a big club. I like it like that,” Kayal told BBC Scotland. “All the focus for everyone here is to try to play better in every game. I am very happy because yesterday we won but the next game on Sunday is not against Rangers.”
Kayal was recently crowned as Clydesdale Bank Premier League player of the month, although he will be missing through suspension for Celtic’s next game against Motherwell at the weekend. However, that should actually allow him some valuable recovery time after picking up a slight hamstring strain against Rangers.
The 22-year-old midfielder was originally sidelined with a groin problem at the start of the campaign, but has since been thrilled at his emergence as a real leading light in Celtic’s chase for the title in only his first season at the club.
“It’s fantastic to come back after two months out injured,” he added. “It’s a new country and the fans give me the drive and energy all the time.”
