Jeremy Frimpong was much loved amongst the Celtic fans.
He brought youthful energy and enthusiasm to the team and his catchphrase of ‘Oh my days‘ after the league cup final win back in 2019 went viral.
At just 18 years old, he was a rough diamond.
What he lacked in defensive attributes, he more than made up for in attacking intent.
After a season and a half, the young Dutchman had made such an impression in the Celtic first team that it persuaded Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen to swoop in and throw multi-millions of pounds at the Parkhead board to allow him to leave.
He signed for Leverkusen in the January window of 2021 and since then, it seems, he is blossoming into a really accomplished player.
Check out these stats from a journalist from Football Daily:
Jeremie Frimpong since leaving Celtic for Bayer Leverkusen:
▪️Most fouled U23 player in Europe (this season)
▪️In the top 2% of fullbacks for dribbles & progressive carried (last 365 days)
▪️2 UCL assists in 107 minutes£9.9m is starting to look very, very cheap 😐 pic.twitter.com/ey53oYfVzn

Effectively, we were robbed.
For those that criticised Frimpong for his defending and sometimes his crossing ability, it just shows that given time and being allowed to develop will pay off.
God knows how much the right-back will be worth now. I just hope that the club have a healthy sell-on clause because if Frimpong keeps up this kind of form, it won’t be long till he’s strutting his stuff at one of Europe’s elite clubs.
