I’m not going to lie, I was going to run with the story. Genuinely was.  But something told me it didn’t look right. It was just TOO easy.  Many Celtic bloggers did run with it and for me, that’s ok too. We are here to report anything remotely Celtic related that would stir up the interest of the fans.

The problem with bloggers is that we do not have access contacts within Celtic, whether it be players or “sources” anything remotely near what the main stream media have so we have to sniff out opportunities to break news that no one else has. It’s a tough market to work in, believe me, and as a relatively new blogger, I now realise the difficulty of the job.

But this Laxalt video, like I said, just didn’t sit right with me so I stopped typing  and decided to check out if it really happened. A quick look at Laxalt’s Twitch account, Elvlade13, shows you that the video claiming to show him reference to Eddie Howe, was in fact recorded ELEVEN days ago!

Should Eddie Howe replace Neil Lennon?

YES

NO

The tweeter that first brought it to light claimed that he joined Laxalt’s stream last night and asked him the question about Howe. Here I outline how that isn’t possible:

The first significant clue was Laxalt’s curtains. Yes, his curtains.  The Uruguayan left back has 14 videos, and only 5 of them have the right sided curtain sitting in the awkward partially opened position.

The second clue was his Nike hoodie. Out of the five remaining videos,  he was wearing the hoodie only once and that video was posted eleven days ago. So unless the tweeter had access to Doc Browns De Lorean there is absolutely NO WAY he asked Laxalt the question last night.

Today, The Scotsman published this story without doing simple fact checks on the account and subsequently pulled the story almost as soon as it had been published. An embarrassing faux pas that an experienced journalistic professional could not do some simple fact checking before running such a “scoop”.
