I have read some utter sh*te in my time as a blogger and this article in Football Scotland, although started off meaning well, quickly turned into a character assassination of Ange Postecoglou.

It started off bad and fell away quickly.

The first point: “Amid all the talk about Ange Postecoglou’s future, one of the strongest narratives emerging is the belief that he is above the likes of Leeds United.”

Talk about missing the point entirely. Many people were saying that a relegation-threatened team is not the kind of club Ange should be aspiring to, not the actual club itself.

If Leeds were challenging for European places then maybe we would be having a different conversation.

But they aren’t, so we are not.

Point 2: “That he won’t walk out on Celtic for such a move to a team in the lower half of the English Premier League, and that he should hold out for one of the elite jobs.”

No one from the Celtic side of the media has claimed he would be looking for an ‘elite’ club. We are not daft. Managers from Scotland don’t get that opportunity anymore due to the snobbery of English football.

Point 3: “Besides, while the Aussie has had a transformative effect on the Hoops team, has them playing brilliant football and completely dominating domestically, he’s still only really taken them from being the second-best team in the country to the best.

“It’s hardly Sir Alex Ferguson or Brian Clough proportions of turnaround.”

Wow. Just. Wow. You know what? He is correct. Not only did we lose our captain, our CEO, major first-team players and had to recruit almost a full first team whilst missing 50% of pre-season, he is right. All Ange did was take them from second to first by overturning a 20+ point deficit.

And the final nail in the coffin for this shocking piece of journalism?

This: “And by the way, he left Yokohama F. Marinos midway through a season to come to Scotland so let’s not rule that out as a possibility when the time comes either!”

The author of the piece? Blair Meikle, a former Sun journalist who now writes this nonsense for Football Scotland.

And it seems he was waiting for reactions from Celtic fans as well.

There is nothing worse than an attention-seeking ‘journalist’.

Just Google him. He is even hated on Follow Follow. That tells you something.
