Celtic are now blessed with an abundance of central defenders since Yuki Kobayashi joined the ranks and, unfortunately, that means we have to let one go.

Many seemed to be of the opinion that it would be Stephen Welsh as the young Scot found himself sitting behind Moritz Jenz when Carl Starfelt was out injured but developments over the last few months have led to speculation that it could be him out the door and not the German.

Not so.

As Jenz confirmed his departure on Instagram yesterday, it seems that the 23 year old was quick off the mark to seal his next move.

And Anthony Joseph has tweeted an update:

Schalke are currently rooted to the bottom of the Bundesliga and it is fair to say that he has his work cut out to shore up a leaky defence that has shipped forty-one goals in seventeen games.

But it is not just the defence that needs a shake, scoring less than a goal a game, Schalke find themselves in real danger of relegation to the second tier in Germany as they sit with nine points, seven from safety.

I hope that the next step in his career is as fruitful as his short Celtic one and wish him the best of luck at Schalke.

He’s going to need it.

Who am I? Can you guess who this former Celt is?
