Expected Celtic exit: US reports on possible deal with bizarre terms

I genuinely don’t know how many times a transfer deal can be reported on by so many different outlets with so many different caveats.

Giorgos Giakoumakis future at Celtic is all but over. All that needs to be done is for the Greek striker to find a club, sign a deal and be done with it.

With so many outlets claiming Urawa Reds were his most likely destination, that now seems to not be the case with MLS side Atlanta now apparently leading the chase.

But a report from the US has seemingly claimed that a deal is going to be struck but just not one that we all expected.

MLS Soccer reports,“A deal is likely to be a loan with a purchase option that would automatically trigger if certain performance-based incentives hit.

“Such a structure without an upfront transfer fee aids Atlanta’s pursuit as the club revamps the squad this winter.”

I read that as a loan deal without a fee. Is that correct?

Is that a deal that Celtic would look to strike?

So rather than get just a couple of million more than we paid for him last season, we would get nothing unless he hits ‘performance-based incentives’?

And what if he doesn’t hit those incentives? What happens then?

It just doesn’t sit right with me. That’s not the kind of deal we have to expect the club to agree on.

Either this report is wildly off target (which I would expect to be the case) or someone at Celtic has decided we need to get Giakoumakis out the club regardless of the cost.

Very strange indeed.

Who am I? Can you guess who this former Celt is?

Good luck to the big Greek, he always gave his all to the cause, but if he is more interested in money over medals then so be it.He is/was a great addition to ANGE’S great reformation of football in our country (long may it continue).
