Former Celtic star, Kris Commons, has blasted Boli Bolingoli over his recent actions and claims that the severest punishment should be handed out to the full-back in an interview with Talksport, reported by The Scottish Sun.

After ignoring government guidelines and refusing to quarantine, Bolingoli has caused two SPFL fixtures to be postponed and put Celtic’s Champions League tie with Reykjavik in doubt.

So what has Commons said?

When asked what action the club should take against the player, and how he reacted on hearing the news, he said:

“My first initial thought was stupidity, the second thought was anger and rage. And now I’m at the point of feeling as if something needs to be done severely.

“Me personally, if I was Neil Lennon, I’d be asking the Celtic board, the committee and the chairman to go out their way and sack Boli Bolingoli. I think what he’s done is selfish.

“He’s had total disregard for himself, his family, his team-mates and their families. And then also to keep it secret and play in a game against Kilmarnock knowing that he’s not quarantined – the team had been in a hotel previous to the game.

“I don’t know anything else that he could have done that would have been worse.

“It’s a real touchy subject at the minute so I would hand him the severest punishment and sack the boy.”

So is Commons correct?

With Neil Lennon not sure whether or not he will be welcomed back into the dressing room, there is every chance that he has played his last game for Celtic, whether or not he gets sacked is another issue.

What should happen to Bolingoli?

The likelihood is that he will be shipped out on loan and the club will have to lose a significant amount of the £3million transfer fee that they paid for him, however, the alternative is an expensive option given he is only 12-months into a 4-year deal.

Would there be cries for Odsonne Edouard or Callum McGregor to be sacked if they had committed the same offence? No chance. Bolingoli’s squad status makes it easy to pin him up as a target, regardless of how stupid and reckless his actions were but back in the real world, writing off millions of pounds in the middle of an economic crisis is sheer stupidity.
