Celtic are not only ahead of the pack in Scotland with their football, but also in their commercial business and worldwide appeal. But according to Hibs boss Lee Johnston, we also lead the way on pitchside with the use of our ball boys.
This is something that was quite evident on the first day of the season. Anytime the ball went out, the ball boys had one ready to launch to keep the speed of play going. This ensured that the continual pressure of the Celtic team never abated, not giving Aberdeen or indeed any further opposition any breathing room.
Johnson was particularly impressed with this and tried to replicate it at the recent Edinburgh Derby, without as much success for them. Speaking to the Daily Express, Johnson said…
“If you watch Celtic ball boys, they are fantastic. They are drilled like Wimbledon ball boys! If they are 1-0 up with ten minutes to go, bang, two balls come on the pitch at once and it’s, ‘Oops, sorry’, Genius! But if they are behind or drawing, the ball is coming back rapid and the throws are incoming in five seconds.”
While I would disagree that the ball boys are deliberately throwing two balls at once when we are ahead, instead I think that is just further evidence of the team trying to push on for more goals, with the ball boys part of that well-oiled machine, all living up to the mantra. We Never Stop!
