This is no great secret, to be honest.

The future of Celtic striker Albian Ajeti has always been kind of up in the air since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou last summer and, after failing to impress the Aussie gaffer, it does look like the Swiss striker could be on his way out of Parkhead before the transfer window closes on the 1st of September.

Granted, Ajeti did have his injury problems last season but after making seventeen appearances for the club and only scoring three goals, the 25-year-old striker’s form has simply not been good enough to be able to hold down a starting place at Celtic. Especially when you look at what Kyogo and Giakoumakis had offered up last season.

Sky Sports journalist, Anthony Joseph, thinks the club may be best suited to loaning Ajeti out to a club with an option to buy to not only get him off the wage bill but also to recoup some of the £5m Neil Lennon shelled out for him back in the summer of 2020.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Joseph said, “Without him playing football for about three years, it’s hard for a club to come in and pay even £3m or £4m.

“So, perhaps a loan with an option to buy would be best, because a club can take him on loan and see what he’s like, see if he starts scoring goals, and then perhaps there’s a fee of £4m or £5m for Celtic to get their money back, but it’s up in the air about his future, but Celtic are very much willing to listen to offers for him.”

Ever since Ajeti earned his move to West Ham United, he has not been able to recapture that same form that persuaded the London club to pay £8m for his services back in 2019 [BBC Sport].

I hope Ajeti gets a move and he goes on to be successful at another club. Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and say it’s not worked out.

Ajeti isn’t the first striker to struggle to cope with the demands of playing for Celtic and he certainly won’t be the last.
