Most people would agree that the transfer window for Celtic was very good this summer. Considering the amount of players that was required to help Ange Postecoglou assemble a first team squad to challenge for the title.

We all agree that one window wasn’t going to fix all the issues that the new Celtic gaffer faces, but with the state of our first team,  Celtic should be trying to make the rebuilding job as easy as possible.

One player that Paul John Dykes and Patrick McGilp believe Celtic should have been a shoe in to sign was Preston’s new boy, Ali McCann.

Speaking on The Celtic State of Mind bulletin today, Dykes asked McGilp if Celtic missed out on a potential signing in McCann, McGilp said, “Absolutely. I think both St Johnstone and Celtic have let their fans down here.  It’s poor business from both because you got £2.5m for Christie that day and I think we got £17.5m for Edouard later on that night.

“So we had plenty of money to spend. So I think you could have offered them £1.5-£2 million pounds.

“And because we’re so light in midfield, I think we’ve only get five options for three possessions. It’s a no brainer really. It’s really, really unfortunate.

“But we’ve got six European games, hopefully three cup games and eighteen league games before then.

“And with a squad as light as ours is at the moment, especially the midfield, you’d be hoping or a player or two like Ali McCann.

“Because he was absolutely fine against Galatasaray, he held up the ball well, didn’t lose a ball at all.

“He was a complete standout for St Johnstone and it was very disappointing that we didn’t get him to be honest.”

It’s not quite known if Ange Postecoglou was looking to sign the young Northern Irish international, but at £1.25m is this a player that Celtic will regret not signing?
