Kris Ajer has been at the centre of speculation since almost this time last year when Leicester City were first said to be interested in securing the Norwegian international’s services, however, in 2020 it has been AC Milan that appear to be leading the chase for his signature and reports at the weekend have done little to quell those rumours.

The Daily Record has reported on Neil Lennon’s post match comments following his side’s 3-2 win over Livingston in which he rubbishes the claims that the Rossoneri have lined up a £14million loan-to-buy offer for the towering centre-half, when asked if he had heard of any bids he said:

“Nothing.

“It’s disappointing on the day of the game that this comes out, because that can be unsettling for the player, but I thought particularly second half he had a real strong game, and we don’t want to sell him.

“I’m not convinced £14m would cut it anyway.”

The gaffer was a forthright as ever in his response and as if to back up his claims, The Daily Record has reported that for Milan to make their move, they will first of all have to lose out on Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic, a lot of ifs, buts and maybes to suggest that there is any truth in the story.

Will Ajer be at Celtic when the window shuts?

Yes

Yes

No

Ajer, despite not commanding a starting slot every week is still one of Lennon’s best centre-halves and adds a quality that none of the others have – being able to carry the ball out of defence to break defensive lines, and it remains a valuable weapon for Celtic.

There is, of course, no smoke without fire and Ajer probably won’t be at the club for that much longer, but if he is here when the window shuts, it makes the gaffer’s job an awful lot easier as he tries to navigate his side to 10-in-a-row.
