Scotland, as a country, has produced an array of talented footballers over the last 100 years.

Look at the Prince of Goalkeepers, John Thompson.

The Lisbon Lions themselves was a team full of Scotsmen and every single one of them was supremely talented.

So that’s what makes this report by FourFourTwo quite incredible.

The report by FourFourTwo via msn listed the top ten players as:

10. Andy Robertson Wow. Just wow. Out of all the left backs in Scottish football history, Robertson made the list.

9. Gordon Strachan. Great player. One of the best of his generation.

8. Dave McKay. Former Hearts legend but I would be lying if I claimed to know anything about him.

7. Billy Bremner. Leeds United legend but worthy of the spot?

6. Jimmy Johnstone. Needs no introduction but 6th in the list? Really?

5. Billy McNeill. One of the biggest names in Scottish football. Criminal that he was listed 5th.

4. Jim Baxter. Incredible Rangers player. One of the most gifted of his generation.

3. Graeme Souness. Hate the guy, but his achievements cannot be discounted. He did, however, start the ball rolling with liquidation so every cloud and all that.

2. Denis Law. Man United legend and European Cup winner

  1. Kenny Dalglish. Cannot dispute his achievements for both Celtic and Liverpool as a player.

I’m not knocking Andy Robertson, but is he one of the best footballers ever produced? To leave out players like Tommy Gemmell and Bertie Auld in place of Robertson (who is a very good player) is unbelievable.

I mean, even taking my Celtic hat off for a minute, Alex McLeish and Willie Miller, are they not more deserving?

It seems this is a list very biased to the English based Scottish players but then that is hardly surprising is it?

Who were Celtic’s most expensive transfers these seasons?

Four-Four-Two fingers up at Scottish football, as usual from English-based media…it’ll never change.

Any pole of this type which doesn’t mention Bobby Murdoch is not worth reading.

However, I do agree with your comment.

The absentee Celtic players on that list is baffling enough, as are some of the positions of those that did make it, but what about guys like Joe Jordan and Steve Archibald, that played for top Italian and Spanish sides? John Robertson and Archie Gemmill at double European Cup winners Forest? Taking off my green tinted specs, you could probably even add a Rangers (RIP 2012) player in there too. John Greig might be one, maybe even the likes of Davie Cooper. Having seen him play against us numerous times, he really was a star player that helped make some otherwise mediocre Rangers teams look a helluva lot better than they were. He even made a previously bang average (being kind) Motherwell team look good. Andy Robertson and Dave McKay are/were great players, but all time top 10? Really?
