Celtic have been spending much of this season looking to get rid of players that are deemed surplus to requirements.

Vasilis Barkas and Albian Ajeti being the most expensive of last seasons summer recruits that could do well finding themselves a new club.

But it did seem that Celtic had managed to offload Boli Bolingoli as the Belgian defender secured a loan move to Russian side FC Ufa at the end of the winter window.

Bolingoli has failed to make any kind of impact ever since his COVID misdemeanours last season effectively ended his Celtic career under Neil Lennon.

But as Ange Postecoglou arrived at the club, there was a feeling that his career could be revived under the Aussie gaffer, or maybe it was in hope, that the left back could have gotten the slate wiped clean and another chance under a different manager.

He did get the opportunity to make two appearances for the club this season but even those seemed like token gestures as clearly work was being done behind the scenes to move Bolingoli on.

And that work seemed to have paid off when Ufa decided to take him on loan this January.

But it seems that the war in Ukraine has meant that the left back is set to return to Celtic immediately as his application for a work visa [Glasgow Times] were denied due to the strained relationship between the UK and Russian governments which means the 26 year old must return to Glasgow immediately.

Bolingoli still has one year left on his contract to run so Celtic face a real race to try and recoup the £3m they paid Rapid Vienna before the contract expires.
