It’s been reported this morning that Celtic have failed in their initial bid to tempt striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo to the club, as current side Dunajska Streda have rejected our offer.

The 21-year-old Ivory Coast international has scored 18 goals in 23 games for the Slovakian side so far in the campaing of 2018/19, but according to the report from Sky Sports their own words indicate that they are open to a deal being done, they are just trying to maximise the return.

They quote their sporting director Jan Van Daele as saying.

“We confirm we have received a bid from Celtic but refused the bid as it did not match our expectations. We are in direct contact with Celtic club officials and we are open to negotiate with Celtic.”

I know nothing about the lad in reality, but if Brendan Rodgers rates him and thinks he can do a job for us, then I doubt it’ll be long if we have a real interest in him as it’s all part of the negotiating game as we look to secure the best value from our point of view.

Potentially playing against us is everyone knows our current situation with strikers, so sides will naturally look to eek some extra out on a transfer fee and that’s always seemed to be the case on this deal given suggestions on the rumour mill.

Plenty will probably take heart in the fact that we’re already working behind the scenes though.
