Celtic receive injury boost ahead of looming Valencia tie

|

Everyone is hoping Dedryck Boyata will be ready for the upcoming match against Valencia in the UEFA Europa League, with Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers revealing he could be ready as early as this week’s Hibernian clash at Celtic Park.

As seen in the interview below with Celtic TV, he is hoping the defender is not too far away and could fill in for the suspended Kristoffer Ajer, who was sent off at McDiarmid Park.

That’s a much earlier return than most fans expected, with many thinking he could be out for a number of weeks after suffering a groin injury.

Rodgers had previously stated this weekend that Boyata was due to return to first-team training on Monday after doing some work over the weekend away from the matchday squad.

Boyata has been our most consistent defender this season and alongside Filip Benkovic had formed a successful partnership, before injury took its toll on both players.

He is due to leave the club at the end of the season but still has a massive part to play in pushing for trophies this term and his return can’t come quick enough.

Jozo Simunovic and Ajer have filled in well in domestic action recently, but Boyata is far better suited to the upcoming clash with Valencia.

Fingers crossed we see him in the squad on Wednesday.
