Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor believes Scott Brown is an absolutely crucial presence in Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic squad, whether he’s starting matches or not.

Admitting it’s strange to not be playing alongside the legendary captain right now, McGregor has paid tribute to what Brown brings to the Hoops squad.

The 25-year-old filled the gap in the team left by Brown after he suffered an injury, showing incredible form and ultimately keeping the captain out of Rodgers’ starting eleven.

Now many feel that Brown will struggle to get back into the team, with McGregor becoming almost undroppable.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, McGregor said of the situation:

Broony is still very much at the forefront for us. He has been the club captain for years, and that shows how big a character he is.

Broony is still there helping the lads even when he isn’t playing. He is a massive character for Celtic, and it’s important we always remember that.

In the dressing room, he is still there geeing everyone up. He’s a massive character and someone we can’t do without. Whether that is playing or not playing, he is still beneficial for the team.

It was always obvious Brown wasn’t going to be the kind of player to mope about not playing.

He recognises he is coming towards the end of his playing career and hearing that he is still acting like a captain in all aspects off the pitch is incredibly pleasing.

The Hoops undoubtedly look more vibrant, fluid and positive without him in the side right now and Rodgers is right to reward Christie and McGregor with playing time for as long as they continue to impress at a high level.
