Celtic “target” desperate to follow in footsteps of countryman Izaguirre after being denied Paradise move

|

Former Celtic target Alberth Elis has revealed that he is desperate for a move to Europe and with his contract expiring at the end of the year the Houston Dynamo midfielder could yet see his dream come true, according to a report in The Daily Record.

The Hoops had reportedly offered £3million for the flying winger in January but had the bid knocked back by the MLS, it was former Celtic left-back Emilio Izaguirre that revealed the interest from Parkhead as Neil Lennon looked for reinforcements.

Elis, who has an impressive goal every three games for Houston, has been offered a new contract by his club but feels that the time is right to follow his countryman and former Celt in making the move to Europe:

“My dream to be able to go to Europe and this is my chance.

“This is a real opportunity and I think I will make the decision that I will leave Houston and give Europe a go.

“There are a few teams we are already talking to in Europe and Houston have also made me a contract offer, a very good one too.”

Elis has attracted interest from other clubs in Europe but the Izaguirre connection could be enough to sway his decision and provide additional attacking firepower following the departure of both Jonny Hayes and Mohamed Elyounoussi.

True or false, Billy McNeill has made the most league appearances for Celtic?

Celtic, and their fans, face an uncertain transfer window with a lot of the attention surrounding who Lennon will be able to keep a hold of at the club and negotiating a deal for Fraser Forster to return so that the core of last season’s dominant side is kept together – adding a few players of genuine quality to replace those that have left will only serve to make the Hoops even stronger.
