With Ange Postecoglou clearly prioritising strengthening the back line during this transfer window, former Celtic striker Charlie Nicholas has said the Celtic boss should target a player that could emulate one of the Hoops most recent superstars in Kieran Tierney.

Writing in his Daily Express column (as serialised by The Sun), Nicholas has said that Celtic should target Hibs left back, Josh Doig, and that the Celtic board should offer at least £4m to secure the services of the young defender, “If I was Ange Postecoglou I would be trying to sign Josh Doig because he could become the next Kieran Tierney. There is talk that Watford have just had a bid of £2.5million knocked back.

“Why wouldn’t Celtic go into the market and try and sign him from Hibs? They might even be able to trade in one or two players to perhaps seal the deal.

“I think Doig has great potential and could flourish into a real Tierney type.  If it was to take £3m or £4m, then why not pay it? He would have a future sell-on and is one of the best young players in the country.

“I know a left-back might not be a priority but I would still go after him right now.”

Hibs have already knocked back a £2.5m offer from Premiership new boys Watford as they believe they could command top dollar for the Scotland u19 star. One thing is clear though, Doig will not be short of suitors this summer and if Postecoglou was to be interested in him, he will need to make his move. And fast.
