Tuesday afternoons win against Ferncvaros was massive.

Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

That was the message from Chris Sutton in his column today in The Daily Record today as he took a swing at those in the media who tried to downplay the magnitude of the win.

And it seemed like a thinly veiled dig at the BBC Sportsound team as their post match interview with Ange Postecoglou was the equivalent of car crash TV.

However, Sutton was in no mood for anyone to take away the platitudes from Celtic after their win lifted them off the bottom of their group and left the door open, albeit ever so slightly, for progression in the Europa League, “I was quietly impressed the other day. In Scotland we have a habit when sides win in Europe of branding the opposition hopeless and some were at it again with Ferencvaros.

“This is a side that pushed Real Betis and Bayer Leverkusen all the way, they dumped Slavia Prague in the qualifiers and reached the Champions League last year.

“They are no mugs. I thought it was a mature performance from Celtic.

“They managed the game and it really should have ended up five or six. There were still the odd moment of panic at the back, like when Carl Starfelt had a little wobble late on, but for the most part it was a comfortable afternoon.

“It was a huge win in the context of the group.”

If Celtic win in Budapest, it pretty much guarantees Europe after Christmas via the Europa Conference League but there is still a ray of light of Europa League progression, if results in other matches go our way.
