Cristian Gamboa started his first game since February for Celtic on Wednesday night, producing a performance at right-back that left supporters delighted.
The 3-1 victory against Rosenborg gives the Hoops a great platform to progress next week in Norway and after a shaky start raised their game to fully deserve the win.
Gamboa added new life to the right flank after coming into the side due to Jozo Simunovic’s suspension, which necessitated that Jack Hendry was moved into the middle of the defensive line.
The Costa Rican made just three appearances last season, falling out of favour with Brendan Rodgers and rarely being seen even on the substitute’s bench.
His pace and determination was evident throughout the 90 minutes and fans are now calling on him to get more action in Rodgers’ starting eleven ahead of Mikael Lustig.
These fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on his performance…
Gamboa made a case for himself tonight. Great performance.

Unpopular opinion: Gamboa is actually better than Lustig

A lot of Celtic fans rightly praising Gamboa for his performance tonight, so it may be worth giving Hendry a break and allowing him to develop.

A big hand for Gamboa last night, he took the game on big time after such a long absence. Jack Hendry after a shaky start also stuck to the task & settled into the game. Both number 7 and 14 tried to wind Broony up, our Captain revelled in & was superb ☘️

Fair fucks to Gamboa. The poor wee guy has been flung in to some of our biggest European games and then you don’t see him for months. Great attitude to be ready for that game tonight.
