Celtic have made enquiries about potentially signing Everton midfield talent Tom Davies, according to The Daily Mail.

The paper report that both the Hoops and English Premier League side West Ham have asked about his availability recently, with the 20-year-old talent struggling to break into Marco Silva’s first team at Goodison Park.

Lee Congerton is said to be especially keen to bring him to Glasgow, but what kind of structure that deal would take is unknown, considering he is rated as worth £13.5m by Transfermarkt.

Silva has ruled out a move away in January but would a short-term loan deal to Scotland tempt Everton into temporarily parting ways with the England U21 international?

Celtic could do with some reinforcement in midfield, with the middle of the park often looking devoid of ideas if Ryan Christie or Callum McGregor are unavailable or deployed in the team elsewhere.

Davies has already played 79 times for the Toffees, with 43 of those coming last season alone. That puts him in a category above the usual young loan signings we make, who have often had little senior action.

At the very least, the report gives you an idea of what kind of player and standard that Congerton and his recruitment team are looking to bring to Celtic Park in January.
