Remember the time when Conor McGregor said he was interested in buying some of Dermot Desmond’s Celtic shareholding?
Back in March, the controversial MMA fighter claimed that buying the club ‘wasn’t off the cards’ [Daily Record] as he made clear his interest in investing in Celtic, Manchester United and Chelsea.
Just how much money does this guy have?
A conversation came up regarding Celtic first to be honest. To acquire shares from Dermot Desmond. I am certainly interested in acquiring a sports team at some stage!
Both Celtic and Man United are teams I like for sure. But I am open. I feel I could do big things for a club. https://t.co/KgD9qnYipP— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) May 9, 2021
I get that linking yourself with clubs like Celtic who have a massive fan base and a worldwide following gives you a ton of free publicity and that is clearly what he is up to with his next bold claim.
After the stories of the possibility of Liverpool being put up for sale hit the headlines this week, McGregor was asked if he would look to buy the club and this was his answer:
I WOULD LOVE IT! I requested my information on this, yes. Soon as I heard. What a turn of events! What a club! @LFC https://t.co/HD0ELlhKOH

It seems his colours change quicker than he can throw a right hook.
So can we please stop entertaining this nonsense?
McGregor was using our club to keep himself in the news and now it’s the turn of Liverpool.
With the EPL club valued at $4.5b it is going to take more than what McGregor has to offer with his wealth to buy the club.

Even after eight months since he last spoke about investing in Celtic there has been nothing from the Irishman.
Let’s hope it stays that way.
