It is without doubt the hottest topic in Scottish, if not European football, right now and until a new manager has been appointed, this story will rumble on as usual. And yes, I know I keep harping on about this subject, but with the names that keep cropping up, it is difficult to just ignore it. Especially with this next ex Hoops favourite now enter the reckoning for the Parkhead hot seat.

John Kennedy for next Celtic manager?

YES

Former Celtic manager, Martin O’Neill, has been seriously linked with the vacant Hoops manager job.  Earlier in the season, O’Neill was rumoured to have been approached for a return to Celtic as their campaign for ten titles in a row floundered.  Lennon himself knew history was gone and finally resigned this week. In his statement Lennon admitted that he struggled to turn around the teams form and that the team did not hit the same standards as previous seasons, “We have experienced a difficult season due to so many factors and, of course, it is very frustrating and disappointing that we have not been able to hit the same heights as we did previously.

“I have worked as hard as ever to try and turn things around, but unfortunately we have not managed to get the kind of run going that we have needed.”

O’Neill has entered the top five favourites to take over at Parkhead behind John Kennedy, Eddie Howe, Steve Clarke and Frank Lampard.  For me, I’m not sure this would be a wise move as O’Neill has been out of football since being sacked by Nottingham Forest in 2019 after finishing a disappointing 9th place in the EFL Championship and would he be willing to enter the goldfish bowl in Glasgow again after an almost 16 year absence?
