Not normally one for getting into these kinds of things but sometimes I wonder at what angle some journalists look upon our club.

In an article in the Daily Record this morning the ‘Monday Jury’ was casting their eye over the coming season and were asked if they thought the club were ahead of our rivals because of our recent transfer activity.

The three journalists giving their verdicts where Kieth Jackson, Andy Newport and Gordon Parks.

And whilst two of them agreed that the Hoops are ahead at the moment, it was Newport’s comments that struck me:

KEITH: “Yes. Celtic’s ducks are already nicely in a row while Rangers still don’t appear to know if Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo will still be at the club next season.”

Half time teaser. Can you guess in six clues who this former Celt is?

ANDY: “They’re definitely getting their work done early but given CCV and Jota were there last season, it won’t be a vastly different Celtic line-up this time. Rangers need freshening up but they still have four weeks to get deals done before the term starts.”

GORDON: “It certainly looks like it. Celtic have managed to get the big two over the line with Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers and Rangers are playing catch-up but it’s still early days.”

I’m not really sure what the need to caveat his statement with ‘it won’t be a vastly different line up‘ when a simple ‘Yes’ would have been sufficient.

Is he inferring that the team hasn’t been strengthened by adding Jota and CCV?

Or that we are standing still?

It seems a strange statement to make considering these are moves that everyone recognises as great pieces of business for the club and guaranteeing that two hugely talented players are showcasing their skills on Scotland for a possible five more years.
