Celtic have maintained an eight-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table after thrashing Motherwell 4-1 at Celtic Park.
In a controversial and fiery 90 minutes, the Hoops had to overcome terrible sportsmanship and borderline cheating to get the job done against Stephen Robinson’s side.
Celtic were comfortably 2-0 up when Motherwell refused to give the ball back to us after it was put out of play following a Ryan Christie injury, with attacker James Scott instead bearing down on Scott Bain’s goal, seeing his shot palmed away before it was converted by Gboly Ariyibi to make it 2-1 in the match.
Celtic Park erupted into fury at the unwritten rule being ripped up by the away team, showering them with boos and whistles for the rest of the 90 minutes.
Ultimately the Hoops’ class shone through in the end, but with the goal throwing the match into chaos for a spell, it could easily have turned into a draw.
Fans on social media weren’t much happier than those at the ground, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts…
Cheats never prosper. #motherwell

James Scott's inexperience is no excuse for that unprofessionalism. #CELMOT 🍀
