There won’t be many footballers in Europe that are currently as happy as Shane Duffy, with the Republic of Ireland international dying to play his part in the Hoops efforts to become history makers, as reported by The Daily Record.

He has watched from afar as his boyhood heroes dominated the Scottish footballing landscape and can’t wait to be a part of it as soon as the international break is over:

“Obviously, I don’t need a reason to go to Celtic but if there is ever a reason it’s this year to make history.

“It’s something I have been following anyway, hoping they would get the title every year so now to get the chance to be a part of it is a huge honour but there is a lot of hard work to do to get that 10-in-a-row.

“I know the fans are optimistic and I am too so we are going to do the hard work and hopefully the reward is at the end.

“I’m delighted, obviously. It’s taken a little while to get it done but I’m over the moon. It’s something I’ve always dreamed of doing and to get the chance and the club to want me is a special moment for me and I’m really excited to get up there and get going.”

It must be hugely frustrating for the 28-year old that he has managed to seal his “dream” move only to have to wait until he can take to the training pitch and pull on the famous green and white hooped jersey in earnest.

Do you think Duffy will stay beyond this season and sign a permanent deal?

Neil Lennon may have questioned the commitment of some of the players under his charge, however, few would be surprised if Duffy becomes the hardest working player given his affinity for the club.

Having a “proper” defender back in the Celtic rearguard will be a throwback to when the gaffer was in his pomp on the pitch and had the likes of Bobo Balde and Johan Mjallby behind him, being able to dribble the ball across the half-way line is all fair and well but keeping it out the back of the net is always going to be the number one priority – one that Duffy will put his life on the line for.
