Rangers playmaker, Ianis Hagi has earned a surprise comparison after Romanian international, Marian Aliuta, claimed that he has an advantage over both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi at the same age, according to a report in The Daily Record.

Despite both Messi and Ronaldo winning the Champions League at a similar age, Aliuta revealed what attribute Hagi has that sets him apart from two of the greatest players ever to grace a football pitch:

“Neither Messi nor RonaldoΒ hit the ball so perfectly with both feet when they were Ianis’ age.

“That’s his big advantage. His technical skill with both feet is incredible. Although he’s not the quickest, his positional sense is excellent too.”

Ronaldo and Messi might not have taken two penalties in one game with different feet but then again, Hagi doesn’t have 700 career goals, something that the two giants of the modern game can boast.

What club did Martin O'Neill leave to join the Hoops?

With no competitive action, newspapers have been struggling to fill their column inches and this latest story demonstrates how quickly football needs to return, obviously, as soon as it is safe to do so.

Celtic fans took to twitter in response to the story and needless to say enjoyed the latest attempt to paint a positive light across the city.

Hagi may be a talented player with decent potential but there are only two players that should be mentioned in the same breath as Ronaldo and Messi when comparing ability – Maradona and (the original) Ronaldo.
