Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer has been tipped for a big money move to English sleeping giants, Newcastle United, in a multi million pound transfer move that could see the Parkhead coffer swell in time for the Celtic rebuilding job.

With almost a full first team expected to leave in the summer, there will be vasts sums of money required for the new man in charge to invest into the team. The Shields Gazette reports that The Magpies are in pole position to sign the big Norwegian stopper as Norwich City, who were also believed to be heading the chase for Ajer, have now been priced out of a move.

Newcastle still hope to haggle the price down from the reported £25m asking price, but with Ajer having being heavily scouted and linked to AC Milan it is believed the English Premier League is the number one choice of destination for the Norway star.

Ajer was watched by Newcastle scouts as Celtic lost heavily to their Glasgow rivals 4-1 on Sunday in the Glasgow Derby and with Ajer not playing at his brilliant best, Celtic will still hope to maximise their profit as his contract enters its final year.

Ajer was signed on a free transfer from Norwegian side IK Start as a fresh faced 17 year old ahs developed into a main stay at the heart of the Celtic defence and currently has twenty one caps for his country. At only 22 years old, Ajer still has plenty of years ahead of him and will be seen as a huge potential player for any English Premier League or continental club.
