Reports from the English based media are suggesting that Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City are preparing to make a £30m striker raid in the transfer market. The Leicester Mercury has said that Rodgers is looking to bolster his forward line with a £30m move for either one time Celtic target Ivan Toney or Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.

The part of this report that will concern Celtic more is that Rodgers is looking for “value” in the transfer market and is willing to splash out £30m for Toney instead of what may be a more expensive move in Abraham.

Rodgers has long been linked with a move for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard, this news will concern the Parkhead board as they look to not only offload the big Frenchman but will actively look for a bidding war to help maximise their profit on the hitman.

Leicester are now seemingly focusing their attentions elsewhere, Celtic’s hopes of playing clubs off each other have now taken a massive blow. Earlier this year, reports that Rodgers believed he was in the driving seat to sign Edouard back in March, albeit for a derisory £15m, seemed way off the mark.

The fact that the former Celtic boss now sees Ivan Toney more value at £30m than Edouard at £15m, effectively may rule The Foxes out of the hunt for the French u21 star.

Edouard is very highly regarded and will still be in demand in England and the continent, but it now looks like his preferred choice to team up with his old gaffer may now dead and buried.
