With Celtic apparently interested in signing Swedish stopper, the Hoops have reportedly offered €5m for the international defender.

It was thought the Hoops were the favourites to seal the deal but in an update by Fabrizio Romano, it seems that Celtic have “stepped down” in their pursuit for the player as they await confirmation on Norwegian international Kristoffer Ajer’s future.

Romano took to Facebook to update the fans when he posted, “Celtic have offered €5m to Rubin Kazan to sign Carl Starfelt as new centre back.

“But at the moment talks are not progressing as Celtic have stepped down – waiting for next steps also on Ajer future. ⚪️🟢 #Celtic.”

This will be a devastating blow for the Celtic fans as they have been waiting now for weeks for that one marquee signing, that one statement of intent that warns their rivals that the club is back on the up.

There has been continuous and never-ending rumours on who will join the club this summer but it does look like Starfelt will not be one that will don the green and white Hoops.

After yesterdays 2-1 pre season victory against Charlton Athletic, boss Ange Postecoglou spoke of the need for getting players in and quick, “We are trying to get some players in and hopefully get some deals done. We need some players to come in because we lost a fair few from last year.”

Postecoglou will be left scratching his head at this latest development as the Celtic fans continue to wonder exactly what IS going on at their club?
