Celtic have been handed a massive transfer boost as French media station L’Equipe say that Renne are “preparing for life” without Brandon Soppy.

Soppy has been the subject of much speculation as the Hoops look to bolster their defensive options with a four million euro move for the pacey full back.

According to L’Equipe, as serialised in The Daily Record,  Rennes have granted understudy status to Lorenz Assignon which suggests that the French Ligue 1 club are ready to let the 19 year old leave in this transfer window.

Soppy was linked to Celtic by respected Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, when he tweeted yesterday that “Celtic are interested in signing Brandon Soppy from Rennes [19, huge talent] as new left back. Talks opened – but there are also French clubs in the race. Flag of France #Celtic #Rennes #transfers

It would seem now that the rumour has taken a step up and with Ange Postecoglou already admitting that the Hoops need to get players in after yesterdays 2-1 win against Charlton, the Celtic gaffer will be desperate to secure his second signing of the window, “We are trying to get some players in and hopefully get some deals done. We need some players to come in because we lost a fair few from last year.”

Celtic have less than two weeks to get new faces in the door ahead of their Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland and with so much speculation over the last few weeks coming to nothing, the Hoops supporters will be hoping that the French full back deal will be one that gets over the line.
