“From what I hear” – Journalist hints that Celtic power change will lead to massive transfer kitty boost

The Celtic AGM has been and gone in the blink of an eye and as the dust settles of the fiery encounter, many fans, journalists and pundits are still picking over the bones of every last, little detail.

One little detail that didn’t go unnoticed was principal shareholder, Dermott Desmond’s absence from the meeting.

Although not surprising, this is Desmond’s FIFTEENTH year in a row he has not attended the Hoops annual since 2006 and that has not gone down well with the fans.

One man who was in attendance in place of Dermott, was his son Ross.

Ross Desmond has never really had a role clarified at Paradise but when daddy’s toy needs looked after, you don’t really need clarification do you?

Ross first attended a Celtic AGM two years ago so he clearly must have had some say in the running of Celtic in some capacity and journalist, Stuart Hodge, reckons that Ross’ role is only going to get more prominent as Dermott looks to hand over the power.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Hodge reckons this will benefit Celtic in the transfer market as young Desmond will hand over funds to the manager to spend in the transfer market, “I think, overall, from what I hear, Dermot Desmond’s looking to hand more and more responsibilities over to his son.

“And even thought the wealth comes from him, I think the dissemination of that wealth, in a Celtic context, will come more from his son.”

Whether or not that happens, I think, is of little concern to the Celtic fans as, right at this moment, they see material change at the top of Celtic as a main priority.

If Desmond Snr hands over power to Desmond jr, they will be in for a long, long wait it seems.
