“Future Celtic captain” – ex Hoops hero claim

|

Since making a breakthrough to the Celtic first team, David Turnbull has been an absolute sensation.  Scoring four goals and creating three assists along with three Man of the Match performances in a row in December, it is easy to see why the Hoops spent upwards of £3m and waited a full year to secure the youngsters signature.

Turnbull’s delivery from dead balls is excellent, his calmness on the ball refreshing and he well definitely be a star for the Bhoys in seasons to come. Turnbull has been receiving well deserved praise from all quarters but is the opinion of ex Celtic hero Frank McAvennie maybe a step too far?

McAvennie was next in line to praise the midfielder and made a bold claim that Turnbull is a future Celtic captain in the making.  McAvennie, speaking to Football Insider said, “I think Turnbull is the future captain of Celtic,

He is a wonderful talent. The boy has fought back from a serious injury and been made to bide his time at Celtic but he has been incredible.

“He will eventually take over from Scott but I can also see the two of them playing together for a season or two.

“Scott can give him so much advice and he will show him the ropes over the next year or so.

“Who better is there to do so than the club’s most decorated player of all time”.

It is difficult to argue with McAvennie’s opinion that Brown will be a great role model for Turnbull but talk of a future captain so early in his Celtic career may be too much praise too soon.
