On the 30th May 2022, the BBC held a vote that allowed football fans from all over Europe to give their opinion on who they thought to be greatest club side of all time. Jock Steins’ Glasgow Celtic were strong winners with 34% of the vote, which succeeded Sir Alex Fergusons Manchester United 1998-99 side and Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona 2010-11.

The 1966-67 season went on to be the most iconic season for the club with Celtic conquering Europe as well as sweeping up all the trophies to be won back in Scotland. Celtic travelled to Lisbon to play the infamous Inter Milan who were European giants, and in the words of the Great Jock Stein, Celtic played ‘pure, beautiful, inventive football’ which guided them to a 2-1 victory.

I agree that this 1966/67 Celtic team fully deserve the title of being recognised as the greatest club side of all time. This current season of football alone has highlighted for football followers globally how difficult it really is to win a desired quadruple. For example, take Liverpool who just fell short at the final stages of their Premier League season and the UEFA Champions League final. The ‘Lisbon Lions’ are still the only squad of players to complete this quadruple. To do it with 11 local lads who came from within 30 miles of Celtic Park is an outstanding achievement for the club and the people of Glasgow which further supports the argument of the 1966-67 Glasgow Celtic team being the greatest of all time.
