‘Have to try and add numbers’ – Celtic midfielder reveals exciting summer transfer plans

|

Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor has given an insight into the club’s summer transfer plans, believing the club will be recruiting heavily to add to the talented core of players already in the first-team squad.

McGregor has been a real stand-out in the Celtic side this season, emerging as not just one of the best players at the club, but arguably the best player in the country.

He’s a real contender for player of the year awards.

Speaking passionately about the direction the club is taking next season, McGregor reckons the recruitment team at Celtic Park are going to have a busy transfer window.

As quoted by The Herald, the 25-year-old said:

We are looking at trying to bring in a few more faces than we have done previously. We are going to have to try and add numbers.

But that group of players we’ve had here at this club for eight to 10 years – like Broony, James, Mika, and also KT, five years, myself, five years.

We all know what it’s about. We know how to win game and how to win trophies. And barring any disasters, those five will be playing most of the games.

That’s a real good starting point for bringing in new players.

With a ninth and tenth league title in a row on the immediate horizon for Celtic, the club are likely to invest heavily in the team this summer to start that historic push.

Decision makers like Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond must know that this could be a defining era in the entire history of the football club and they also must know the team badly needs freshened up.

McGregor is right, there’s a talented and experienced core to the first-team, but they also need help and fresh, talented blood that will ensure there is no complacency in the side next season and beyond.

With players like the Scotland international speaking openly about recruitment already, it appears fans can look forward to plenty of transfer action.
