One thing that cannot be questioned is how Celtic have performed in the transfer market this season.

Recruitment was key to Celtic in many ways.

Replacing key talents like Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie on top of replacing outgoing on loan players and Scott Brown made this seasons challenge to the SPFL title look like Mission Impossible.

No one gave us an earthly chance of competing, never mind winning the title.

And Ange’s dealings in the transfer market have absolutely been key in delivering that.

But former Celtic defender, Mark Wilson, has claimed that Ange Postecoglou shouldn’t take all the credit for the transfer dealings this season.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Wilson said, “He can’t be the only one just to take credit from this.

“He should take the most credit because he’s the manager and he has to shoulder the blame and he has to come out to the media and it’s his work, his vision.

“But you’re right, he was backed from the club hierarchy. He is surrounded by, people won’t see it, but there will be people in recruitment, who are doing an awful lot of work to identify players who have played here.

“He would have known Joe Hart, of course, but guys like O’Riley, you know, is that Ange Postecoglou’s pick?

“Or is there someone behind the scenes presenting that to Ange Postecoglou?

“I’ve no doubt a lot of that comes into it at Celtic.

“So it’s been a huge team effort but, of course, Postecoglou will get all the credit and he deserves a lot of it, but there’s others who have chipped in.”

Now, as we all know, it is Ange Postecoglou’s job to identify and sing new players for the club.

The manager identified Kyogo, Hatate, Ideguchi and Maeda. No one else.

Now I am not saying that we don’t have a scouting department, of course I am not, but all signings are done at the request of the manager and up until recently, we had no one heading that until Mark Lawwell was hired.

HE has the final say. He may be presented with players to look at, but he still has to run the rule over them, make sure they fit the culture of the club and the style of play and for that, the manager deserves all the credit.

So to suggest he doesn’t deserve all the credit is extremely harsh by Wilson.
