There has been much made about Giorgos Giakoumakis and the apparent break down on contract negotiations.

Will heaven? Will he stay? Is he even happy at the club.

The Greek International has been in great form for the club considering he starts most of his game from the bench.

His goalscoring record is phenomenal.

In 50 appearances for the club he has netted 25 times [Transfermarkt] and, like I said, with most of his appearances coming off the bench, the 27 year old has certainly shown his worth to the team.

But journalist, Mick Gannon, had a strange take on Giakoumakis.

In the article, the question was asked if he went, would he be be a big loss to the Hoops?

Writing in the Daily Record, Gannon said he wouldn’tbe a big loss adding, “When Kyogo was out injured last season, he stepped up and drove the Hoops over the line.

“The 27-year-old gives Celtic a physical presence up top and while his touch outside the box isn’t exactly subtle, if he had that part of his game as well he would be at Old Trafford rather than Tollcross.”

Trying to replace a goal scorer like Giakoumakis will cost the club millions.

At Giakoumakis’ age where he is just coming into his prime, it would make better sense to try and keep him than let him go.

But would he be willing to continue to play second fiddle to Kyogo as the Japanese striker is clearly preferred as first choice?

That, in the end, could be the sticking point for the Greek striker.
