As the Scotland squad was announced today and David Turnbull didn’t make the cut, the guys on PLZ Soccer – The Football Show, were discussing the reasons behind Scotland boss, Steve Clarke’s, decision to leave the Celtic playmaker out the squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Austria on the 25th March.
Host, Peter Martin, was discussing Turnbull’s exclusion with co host, Tam Cowan, when Cowan revealed his future prediction for the next Celtic manager, “We’ve all got our own favourites and clearly as a Motherwell fan, I still am a huge fan of David Turnbull and I was right in my prediction that once he got into that Celtic team you wouldn’t get him back out of it.
“I think he’s been absolutely brilliant. One of the rare plus points for Celtic fans. But by way of a wee prediction, let me just say that after the summer, I think Steve Clark will be picking David Turnbull perhaps even on a weekly basis.”

Peter Martin agreed with Cowan’s assertion and replied, “Exactly what I mentioned yesterday and I mentioned it to more than a few people. For Celtic, potentially, he’s one of those guys that is constantly in the running, certainly as I’ve tried to analyse everybody who’s in the running for the Celtic job Steve Clarke for me is the strongest candidate that I think he could be the main man.”
I’m not sure how well this would go down with Celtic fans as they are desperate to see the new man take the reigns of the Parkhead hot seat as soon as possible to start organising the overhaul required to take the Premiership crown back from their Glasgow rivals. If Clarke is to be the man, waiting till after the Euro’s will see a delay in preparations for the new season, especially with the Champions League qualifiers kicking off on 8th August.
