You know there’s just sometimes you listen to a guy talk and you think to yourself, ‘What on earth are you talking about?’ and when I was listening to this pundit, this was one of those times.

Mark Guidi has jumped ship from his usual spot on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard to now punt his opinion on Scottish football on The Go Radio Football Show, and he had a bit of a nightmare on last nights show.  Discussing the potential of Eddie Howe as the next Celtic manager, Guidi said the young up and coming manager ‘doesn’t do it for him’ because ‘there is just something about him’.

Speaking to host, Paul Cooney, Guidi said, “But as for the next manager, Eddie Howe doesn’t do it for me to be honest.  There’s just something about him, I don’t know what it is he just strikes me as being potentially a Tony Mowbray type, where it could all really implode.

Should Eddie Howe replace Neil Lennon?

YES

NO

“That’s the kind of thing that I would say, but Maresca has something about him, but again, maybe I’m a bit old fashioned or traditional but a Roy Keane or a Martin O’Neill for me all day long.”

That is quite the level of in depth analysis there on a manager that is sought after is highly regarded by many top pundits and professionals in the game not only in Scotland but down south in England.  ‘Just something about him‘? What is it exactly? Is it his ability to produce good exciting football whilst nurturing through young talent?

‘Potentially a Tony Mowbray’? What exactly is that assertion based on?  Where on earth in Howe’s career has he produced a ‘Tony Mowbray’ moment?  Granted Howe left Bournemouth when they got relegated in the 2018/19 season but what was Guidi expecting from a small club punching above it’s weight in England’s top tier?

But the last one, ‘Roy Keane for me all day long’.  Guidi is correct in his own assertion of himself. He is old fashioned and has shown that his opinion on what makes a good modern day manager no longer matters. Go Radio have found themselves a real gem here.
