The Ryan Christie story is one of wonder. For two reasons. The first is that how did the club allow his contract to expire to the point where he could walk away for free? And the second? Who allowed, or sanctioned a contract to expire half way through a season?

As the Scotland star looks to have made his peace with a decision to move on, it seems that there are no firm takers for the midfielders signature.

And would Celtic offer him an extension if he did decide to stay on and help the Ange Postecoglou revival? Not according to former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie.

Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie was damning and reckons Christie will never get a chance under Postecoglou, “He’s been allowed to talk to clubs now.

“He’s still here. That shows you how in-demand he is. I don’t think he’ll get a game now at Celtic.

“He’s had his chance, that doesn’t change overnight when a new manager comes in.

“On the other hand, Postecoglou might like him. He might take the decision out of Christie’s hands and make him part of the squad.

“He’s not a team player so I can’t see that. But he can want to go as much as he wants, no one has come in for him.”

And that is the point. Christie has been free to talk to clubs since the start of July and still he is at Celtic Park. Has demand fell for the player? Has his performances last seasons scuppered his chance of a big move? We will soon find out.
