The Mat Ryan to Celtic deal seemed dead in the water as rumours circulated that the experienced Australian keeper had accepted a deal to go to La Liga and ply his trade with Spanish side Real Sociedad.

When asked about the move on Fox Australia, Ryan was very cagey in his reply but did admit that Celtic is a move that appeals to him, “I mean, it’s obviously always flattering to have interest and all that. There’s been a lot of speculation about it, I guess, people putting two and two together.

“Realising that I guess I’m probably at the stage of my career now where [a move] is probably going to be happening given the circumstances at Brighton.

“And obviously, given the relationship between Ange and I in the past, in the national team, I think there’s a lot of people putting two and two together. It’s interesting, that move may come about.

“I’m not really sure what’s going, just waiting and seeing. And trying to give the diplomatic answer.”

With Ryan referencing his past relationship with Postecoglou, he may be correct and people are making assumptions on a possible move but, with the Real Sociedad deal not signed and sealed, there is hope that the Hoops could pull off a coup.

Ryan has great international experience with sixty caps for the Socceroos, and would, without doubt, be a fantastic addition to the Celtic squad. He would offer ample competition for Vasilis Barkas and if that alone will help the Greek keeper step up his game, then it is most definitely a win win for the Hoops.
